Editor's note
The International Day of the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is held on March 21st every year. A combination of texts, images and videos are used to question, and encourage active listening, discussion and research skills. There is much coverage of key/technical vocabulary, the importance of language and the use of statistics. Punctuation, fact & opinion, and organisational features are also touched upon. A series of challenging prompts are provided for whole class discussion. For reading, short texts can be used to consolidate various comprehension skills such as language features and understanding key/technical vocabulary. There is also a separate Word document with detailed, thought-provoking comprehension questions for a set of four texts that are introduced on slide 10. The final task is to write an article.
