This is a fun activity which encourages ESOL learners to engage with digital technology and transacting online. It provides opportunity to explore vocabulary related to shopping while also discussing the advantages of shopping for food online. It can be adapted to all levels and can be extended for a longer activity if required.

A hangman style game created in Google Jamboard (a free animated whiteboard app). Based on a game I used to play on a traditional whiteboard with a cut-out crocodile and person (held in place with blu-tac!) and river created with a blue whiteboard marker. When Covid-19 and remote teaching came along, I needed something else.
Rugby themed task on reading (use of quotations and dialogue, facts versus opinions), researching and writing a short article. Topic links to ICT, suitable for use during e.g. Rugby World Cup, Six Nations Tournament or with any group keen on sport![img_assist|nid=5708|title=|desc=|link=popup|align=left|width=100|height=71]

A movable PowerPoint that can be used as a starter, revision, recap, group activity, etc. Covering ALLFOUR purposes: INFORMATIVE, INSTRUCTIVE, PERSUASIVE and DESCRIPTIVE. Can be used in conjunction with the ‘comparison table’ which contains the same information in the simple and quick reference table (see my other resources).
A literacy resource for learners to find words containing long A sounds made by different digraphs. This resource was written as a pairs activity although it can equally be an individual one. There are four pieces of texts each using words containing predominantly one particular digraph – ai, ey, ay, or eigh. Learners can then search for other long A sounds formed from different clusters within the same text. Peer marking and plenary extend the learning.

An interactive whiteboard activity with ten words to sort. Noun, verb or both is a good way to explore the way that words can be both nouns and verbs. Easily edited to suit E1-E3. .
Covers both regular and irregular plurals (10).
The great thing about this activity is that it is created from a template (available in the Activity Toolkit, in the Smart Notebook Gallery) and can be quickly and easily edited to include specific spellings for your students.
