Rw/L1.3a: Recognise and understand an increasing range of vocabulary, applying knowledge of word structure, related words, word roots, derivations and borrowings
- Know that some words are related to each other in form and meaning, and use this knowledge to help understand new words, e.g. photograph, photographer and photography
- Be aware of the origins and meaning of common prefixes and suffixes, e.g. anti-, pro-, bi-, tri-, -ology - and use them to aid understanding
- Realise that languages borrow words from each other, e.g. cul-de-sac, bungalow, chocolate, nosh
