Great set of tasks covering maths (counting, addition, subtraction, sorting, extracting info from lists/tables, problem solving) and English (reading and spelling).
Fully mapped to E1-E3 Functional Skills criteria (most suitable for E1-E2 but some of the maths is E3) with extensive teaching tips and notes.
Adapted from Jennifer Whitehead’s “Workign in a Garage” (see below).
A set of posters / cards / checklists designed to prompt discussion, check learning and keep a record of student progression. Designed for Entry Level Functional Maths and English learners in an FE setting but suitable for all levels and subjects.
This resource was inspired by discussion on the NCETM (National Centre for Excellence in Teaching Mathematics) site about “understanding versus doing” and I would like to thank the forum members for their ideas and feedback.

A very practical and useful E2-E3 Functional Maths resource for extracting information from lists and tables, recording information in a table, and completing simple calculations with time (programme length).
Extracting information from tables (you will need an up-to-date postal prices leaflet – free from any post office or download link provided) followed by hands-on practice weighing parcels. Ideal for, and fully mapped to, Functional Maths.
Graduated activity for E2-L2 mixed ability groups. Involves recognising and sketching and drawing nets; constructing a chosen 3D shape; and (for L1 -2 only) calculating volume and surface area. With detailed adult numeracy and Functional Maths mapping information.
The tutor will need some pre-prepared nets – suggested web links are included.
Ideas for a revision class on the theme of making a cake. I have included a cake recipe by Delia Smith and some prices of cake ingredients and items for cake decorating.
This uses the Olympic games 2012 as a focus. The main emphasis is maths / numeracy but ICT and English reading skills are also covered.
[img_assist|nid=4367|title=|desc=|link=popup|align=left|width=70|height=100]Learners will read dates by looking at a calendar and marking on when the Olympics start and finish (including the Paralympics), read times that the football events start and finish and put these on a clockface, and read prices of tickets of a match that they choose. There are also questions on shapes, number, money and doubling.
