A short article with multiple choice questions and ideas for discussion. Several of the questions also require general L1 numeracy skills with time and large numbers, making this a good all round starter activity.
An illustrated text accompanied by a wonderful set of varied Entry 3 – Level 1 questions. These cover so many reading elements (also spelling) that the resource could almost be used as a diagnostic assessment tool. Includes comprehension, prefixes/suffixes, compound words, dictionary and vocabulary work, sentences and punctuation.

Adult reading and phonics practice for Entry 1 learners. Bill is a baker who really likes Betty but he’s afraid of her big boyfriend and his big boxer dog, Ben! A story plus linked spelling, vocabulary and punctuation work.
A beautiful five page handout designed to help students write clear descriptions and learn key technical vocabulary – examples include British cheese, cuts of vegetables and a wonderful mind map showing key quality points to look for in cuts of meat and poultry. Written for NVQ 1-2 catering students working on their ‘local hospitality provision’ project.
Making a formal phone call (in order to arrange an interview with a local hospitality provider, etc.) provides key questions to guide students through the formalities of making requests, asking questions (and wording them carefully).
Suitable for all contenxts – not just hospitality.
