This is a fun activity which encourages ESOL learners to engage with digital technology and transacting online. It provides opportunity to explore vocabulary related to shopping while also discussing the advantages of shopping for food online. It can be adapted to all levels and can be extended for a longer activity if required.

A fun activity for ESOL learners which draws on the popularity of the online word guessing game, Wordle.

A complete mini-lesson for ESOL or Functional English! Introductory PPT and a detailed and very useful lesson plan. A great way to integrate spelling strategies with basic ICT skills. Includes discussion about the 26 letters but 44 phonemes of the English language. 

Fourteen questions related to Remembrance Day (topics include WW1, WW2 ration books,  Korean War, war poetry, etc.). Use as a traditional paper-based quiz or an IT based investigation. Learners could work individually or in teams / small groups. One way of approaching the quiz would be to see what the class as a whole can answer from their general knowledge befor

Rugby themed task on reading (use of quotations and dialogue, facts versus opinions), researching and writing a short article. Practice some of the skills needed for ICT Functional skills and also a bit of fun. Can be used individually, in pairs or groups. Two lots of 15 questions with fill-in answersheet attached.

This is a fabulous board game created as a fun and gentle introduction to L1-2 Functional ICT (or other ICT type classes). It also makes a good ice breaker at the beginning of term. Best printed onto A3 and laminated.

There is also an extra bonus ‘Quiz makers’ game available online (link available on the answer sheet).

20 very useful images depicting the main MS Office tool buttons (copy, paste, font, align left, etc.). Originally created and used in a class of ALDD students on preCLAIT (but useful for any introductory ICT class). Print in colour on A4 paper and laminate for re-use.
