This set of slides includes skills from sections 3 (Communication) and 4 (Transaction) of the standards. The slides cover: online banking and buying, filling in secure forms with bank details, digital footprints and using security systems such as Captcha, and much more. Also many useful links to YouTube videos and other online learning applications.

How to use Hot Potatoes to make a crossword – is an ideal embedded literacy exercise for ICT classes (or embedded ICT for literacy!) with step by step illustrated help for using this popular freeware program to create web based word puzzles.
Karen has also provided two sample crosswords to show learners the type of puzzle they can quickly produce. Puzzle A is on parts of speech, puzzle B is on punctuation marks. (See below)
A paired activity based on the well known web site provides an engaging way to introduce or revise this tricky topic.
Emma suggests that a useful extension activity is for learners to take pictures on their phones – where appropriate – of apostrophe ‘abuse’ they come across and bring them in to class for discussion.
