Very topical and challenging set of tasks based on a news report about the new 5p charge for plastic carrier bags introduced in England on October 5 2015.
Questions range from Entry 3 to high Level 2 and cover dates, large numbers, bar charts, averages, interpreting data in tables, mean average and percentages. It also challenges learners’ reading and English comprehension skills. Bar chart question requires graph paper or Excel.
Two differentiated functional English tasks that involves a number of reading and writing skills (with a bit of maths thrown in!). Learners can personalise this by using names of their own friends and family. For both versions you will need copies of the current Argos book or access to the web site.
Entry 2 version includes: using a catalogue or web site, writing a list & a gift tag, budgeting, writing a note. You will need one gift tag per learner.
Set of resources created by myself and colleague, David Bayne , to help students use Word, Excel and Access. We wanted students to practise for the Level 2 ICT Functional Skills exams, using a method that would be familiar to them. They all drive cars and need to get them serviced, so this seemed a suitable area to use.
A topical reading activity based on a BBC News article about the recent ‘Super-moon’ eclipse. Learners are to extract information from the text and from images included in the article.
Rugby themed task on reading (use of quotations and dialogue, facts versus opinions), researching and writing a short article.
