ESOL Sc/E1.3a  Ask for personal details

Sc/E1.3: Ask questions to obtain specific information
ESOL Sc/E1.3a:  Ask for personal details

  • form questions of the wh- type and the yes/no type, approximating a falling intonation in wh- questions and a rising intonation in yes/no questions. Examples: What's your name? Do you speak Hindi? Where do you work?
  • use the question form of the simple present tense of common verbs, verbs to be and have got, using contractions where appropriate, e.g. what is becomes what's. Example: Have you got a job?
  • form questions, using common modal verbs, especially can. Example: Can you drive?
  • understand and be able to use a range of question words, e.g. who, what, where, how much/many?

This activity can be used as an icebreaker or as resource when teaching about 3rd person agreement in the present tense.

Learners ask 'Do you ..... ?' and use the answers in the box to complete the question however after the Tutor's monitoring they should realise that the answer form cannot be used for the question form.

The questionnaire has 16 boxes but according to time and size of class, it can be reduced by folding the questionnaire so only 8 questions are used instead.
