# Pudsey

Functional Maths and English resources based on the annual BBC Children in Need appeal.

The TV appeal dates back to 1955 although similar appeals had occurred on radio since 1927. The telethon format began in 1980; Pudsey Bear has been the mascot since 1985.

## Support Children in Need E1-2 maths

Entry Level 1-2 Maths questions based on a shopping poster from the BBC 2018 Children in Need appeal but can be used at any time. Main focus is positional vocabulary, money and basic number (+, -. x, /) skills

Fully mapped to the new 2018 Functional Maths content which takes effect from September 2019 (note that times tables to 12 x 12 and basic division skills are now expected at E2). Image below shows , as an example, the detailed E2 mapping.

## Children in Need - for ESOL

An adaptation of the text originally contributed by Amanda Burgess. I’ve simplified it for ESOL E2-E3 learners and added a vocab box as well – either for learners to investigate themselves or to be taught by the tutor ( Eg,What other charities do you know about….What other ways do charities use to raise money…etc).

From an ESOL point of view, the resource ties in with the core curriculum reading descriptors as well as the ‘Getting Involved in the Community’ part of the Citizenship syllabus.
