Adult Numeracy, Functional Maths, and GCSE Resources

I designed this quiz as revision for my learners.
Trying to disguise the Functional Maths by putting it together with other rounds as a quiz to make it more interesting!

A simple but effective dice game to help students become familiar with, and practise, calculating percentages of amounts. You will need to customise 2 dice by writing amounts on one and percentages on the other.
I usually play this game with low ability students after teaching them a fail-safe calculator method for working out percentages of amounts, but it can be adapted for higher level learners.
It also helps to reinforce that 0% of a number is nothing and 100% of a number is all of it.

I use this in my ESOL Functional Maths classes. I know there are already excellent measures / postal charges resources on Skillsworkshop, but I wanted to do a matching type exercise, which ESOL students are very familiar with.

A gigantic worksheet / assessment pack based on Facts & Stats from the official Wimbledon site in 2016. Covers almost all aspects of Functional Maths and is split into differentiated sections covering Entry Level 2 to Level 2.

Minor update 3/7/16 – extra line graph question and improved graph paper.

This aural check was used to assess learners before they attended my intensive 1:1 support / revision sessions for the Level 1 Functional Maths exam. These were generally students that I had not met or taught before.

Very useful set of follow me cards based on everyday scenarios such as car repair bills, lottery wins, and finding money down the back of the sofa! With instructions.

A comprehensive list of Level 1 maths topics and descriptions.

Students to match the correct description to each topic. Then RAG (red, amber, green) rate their skills for each one using colour stickers. You can then use results to work on “Top 3 trickiest” skills, etc.

A game of bingo to practise classroom objects and numbers 1-16. There are 8 different bingo cards and a teacher’s board.
This could be used at the start of term for Pre-entry or Entry 1 learners.
