I have been covering how to make an appointment with the GP and taking part in a role play with the GP with my ESOL group, so I have prepared these materials.
My courses are not accredited, so I don’t know how this fits into the ESOLSFL criteria and my classes are, inevitably, a mix of Pre-Entry and E1 learners. Hope it might be useful.

A short topical reading comprehension at two levels (L1/L2) and Entry 3 on the 29th February. The higher level text requires learners to write a short paragraph in a specific context. Some embedded maths is included. I have also added a short fact sheet about when Leap Years occur, for when someone asks those technical questions!
Editor’s note
With detailed curriculum mapping and answer sheet.
A resource pack to suit Functional Skills English at Levels 1 and 2, based on a BBC magazine article about the ET video game and the collapse of Atari. Reading tasks are supported by You-tube clips designed to prompt small group discussions. There is also a writing task.
Editor’s note
Includes curriculum mapping and answers.

Topical resource based on a news story. Reading comprehension at 2 levels (E3 and L1/L2) plus two writing extension activities with writing frames. Some embedded maths (including a chart in the L1/L2 exercise) and the opportunity to discuss healthy eating. The higher level comprehension aims to get learners to understand in depth what they are reading, rather than just answer the questions from the text.
A rigorous and fully mapped reading assessment with mark sheet and detailed answers. This resource takes account of the changes demanded since Ofqual published its thematic review of Functional Skills in January 2015. Can also of course be used for normal classwork, revision, homework or private study. Ideal for Pancake day but could be used any time of year.
