This resource covers what is expected at the Entry 1 ICT Functional Skills exam. It follows the structure of an exam paper.  An E2 version is also available.

I based in it on a Skillsworkshop English resource by Isabel Jordan.

A task sheet for L1 Functional Skills ICT. It focuses on Task 3 of the Edexcel exam paper which involves being creative and producing a document that uses clear presentation features and is fit for purpose.
Includes two tasks (a restaurant menu and a flyer for a student production) plus a short extension.

Practice some of the skills needed for ICT Functional skills and also a bit of fun. Can be used individually, in pairs or groups. Two lots of 15 questions with fill-in answersheet attached.

Internet Searching is a gentle introduction for those new to the internet (suitable for all levels from E2 upwards) based on the BBC home page.

A paired activity based on the well known web site provides an engaging way to introduce or revise this tricky topic.
Emma suggests that a useful extension activity is for learners to take pictures on their phones – where appropriate – of apostrophe ‘abuse’ they come across and bring them in to class for discussion.

A set of 3 web research task sheets. Choose between rugby team, football team or favourite singer / group. Provides practice in web research, skimming, scanning and reading comprehension.

Swine flu web research questions. 1 page of general swine flu questions to research and then summarise in Word.

First designed as a tool for increasing students’ vocabulary and use of descriptive language, this resource uses Wordle – which students love!
Wordle is a brilliant on-line, completely free word cloud creator.

Selecting, highlighting and formatting practice – 4 different documents (of varying complexity). A poem about cats; a restaurant menu; information about dogs, cats and trees! (some are also suitable for reading & comprehension work). Two include formatting instructions, others are to be reproduced as closely as possible to practice advanced formatting skills.

Step by step guide to help students create their own useful calendar where they can record important appointments etc. Clear screenshots with arrows make this resource accessible from Entry 1 upwards. First used with Entry ESOL – ICT learners but also suitable for Entry literacy and numeracy.
