Useful 1 page handout. Very simple instructions on how to correct a mistake made when typing in Microsoft Word. First used with residents at a clinic who have learning difficulties but ideal for any beginner.

Here is another Level 1-2 variant on the classic ‘Smarties’ investigation which incorporates the use of a PC and Excel. I stopped using Smarties and Skittles because of the health and hygiene issues.

Very clear, step by step task sheet for E3 ICT / Literacy / ESOL learners.
Enter a given short text into the PC, save and name files, set font size, etc. Then plan, write and proofread a short description about your own morning.

This is a fabulous board game created as a fun and gentle introduction to L1-2 Functional ICT (or other ICT type classes). It also makes a good ice breaker at the beginning of term. Best printed onto A3 and laminated.

An E3-L1 Functional Maths, English and ICT task first used with learners at Leyton Orient Community Sports Programme. Plan and cost a restaurant meal for 20 officials (originally held at Frank and Benny’s, Chingford, but you will need to provide menus from a favourite local restaurant or chain) and then present your results in a spreadsheet..

Lovely classroom display that will help learners define and understand the function of 20 common Excel toolbar buttons.

Super set of three ICT task sheets that successfully embed Functional ICT, Functional English and even some Functional Maths!
Each task sheet involves composing, sending and replying to work-based emails: based in a dental surgery, a health centre and a travel agency.

Lovely workbook for E1 ESOL, Literacy or Functional English. Use a prompt for discussion about the importance of keeping in touch, letting people know where you are, and asking for help. With plenty of opportunities for students to write their own texts.

How to use Hot Potatoes to make a crossword – is an ideal embedded literacy exercise for ICT classes (or embedded ICT for literacy!) with step by step illustrated help for using this popular freeware program to create web based word puzzles.
Karen has also provided two sample crosswords to show learners the type of puzzle they can quickly produce. Puzzle A is on parts of speech, puzzle B is on punctuation marks. (See below)

Lovely interactive crossword. 13 clues. Would make a good group activity on an interactive whiteboard.

To run, unzip the file (select “Extract all files”) into a new folder and click on *partsofspeechhotpotcrossword *to run.
