Smarties & Love Hearts

A fun, sweet counting activity. Learners will learn basic counting skills and number recognition from one to nine. In addition, they will learn colour matching.
Print onto A4 and laminate – you will also need a packet of M & M sweets.

Here is another Level 1-2 variant on the classic ‘Smarties’ investigation which incorporates the use of a PC and Excel. I stopped using Smarties and Skittles because of the health and hygiene issues.

Another great worksheet in the never-ending Smarties series. Three level 2 tasks covering evaluating one number as a fraction of another, and adding and subtracting fractions. You will need at least one tube of Smarties.

Smarties graphs and pie charts is yet another adaptation of our ever-popular resource. This version is aimed at L1-2 and covers pie charts, bar charts, averages and tallies.

M&Ms Investigation is an adaptation of the 2007 L1-2 Smarties resource from Judith White – it is particularly useful now as it seems that sadly the Smarties factory now uses an accurate counter and all tubes contain the same number of sweets! Covers bar charts, pictograms, tallies. Also discusses averages and analyses collective data.

Skittles pictogram creator is a very clever Excel sheet to accompany our ever popular Smarties data handling resource and it a great way of combining numeracy and IT skills(many tutors are now using Skittles as an alternative to Smarties because there is more variation in the numbers/colours of sweets per packet).

Smarties Challenge makes a great general revision activity for L1 – L2. Covers averages, representing data, pi, fractions, percentages and more. With extension tasks.
