This ‘random number generator’ is an open ended resource that the author originally designed to use for mental maths (adding or taking away 10 from the displayed number). It was later used it as part of a ‘Question of Sport’ quiz (in the spelling round!): learners choose a picture and then spell the ‘random’ number that appears: 49, 32, 28, 46, 67, 55, 21, 74 and 13 (these be edited to suit and could also be linked to any set of numbered, pre-prepared quiz questions on any topic).

A brilliant bumper collection for E1-2ESOL. The exercises include a basic introduction to prepositions, gap fills and underlining exercises, anagrams, mixed up sentences, write your own sentences (with and without word prompts). Excellent practice for class or homework.

A great 2.5 hr differentiated lesson plan complete with resources including ordering and matching worksheets and cards, simple spelling sheet, healthy eating chart (please download the accompanying Excel file – see below). The main topic is making an omelette and the lesson includes sequencing, letters, word recognition and building, and simple sentences. You will also need food leaflets from supermarkets, plastic or wooden letters and a tape recorder.

Mixed ESOL resources for E1 beginners is a wonderful collection of resources for new students. 9 pages cover likes/dislikes, key vocabulary such as numbers, months, etc.; simple comprehension; asking and giving personal information plus a final review to check that students have remembered everything.
