# MSS1/L1.10

MSS1/L1.10 Work out simple volume (e.g. cuboids) (a) know that volume is a measure of space (b) know what measurements are required to calculate volume, and how to obtain them (c) know that measurements must be in the same units before calculating volume (d) know that the volume of a cuboid = length x width x height (or depth) (e) know that volume is measured in cubic units

## Area, perimeter, volume re-cap task

Submitted by Nikki Gilbey on Mon, 2013-10-07 19:13

#### Resource type: Hands-on / practical activity, Revision material, Worksheet or assignment

I made this resource to check prior learning of a group I took over from another lecturer.
It could work well for assessment, revision or as an extension task.

With Functional Maths mapping

## Area perimeter and volume for Functional Maths

Submitted by Louise Dumbell on Sun, 2011-12-18 20:45

#### Level: L1, L2

Powerpoint presentation introducing area, perimeter and volume for L1-L2 Functional Skills (maths) learners. Covers rectangles, compound shapes and circles.

## Perimeter, area, volume for IWB

Submitted by Leia Fee on Sat, 2011-09-17 18:25

#### Level: L1, L2

Lovely introduction to perimeter, area and volume. The learner can move squares and 3D blocks around to see how area and volume relate to physical squares / cubes.

Please note you must have the ActivInspire interactive whiteboard software installed on your computer in order to open, view and use the flipchart resource.
A free personal edition is available for download at http://support.prometheanplanet.com/

## Nets of 3D shapes - group activity

Submitted by Helen Lloyd on Mon, 2011-06-13 16:14

#### Level: E2, E3, L1, L2

Graduated activity for E2-L2 mixed ability groups. Involves recognising and sketching and drawing nets; constructing a chosen 3D shape; and (for L1 -2 only) calculating volume and surface area. With detailed adult numeracy and Functional Maths mapping information.
The tutor will need some pre-prepared nets – suggested web links are included.

## Medium term plan for E3-L1 perimeter, area and volume

Submitted by Susan Kindred on Sun, 2011-03-13 15:57

#### Level: E3, L1

8 week fully mapped medium term plan / scheme of work for teaching perimeter, area and volume to learners preparing for Edexcel ALAN (adult literacy and numeracy) tests.

Lots of detail – including hyperlinks to online practice tests and DfES Skills for Life worksheets. Fully mapped and differentiated. With loads of lovely hands-on kinaesthetic ideas for covering these topics.

## Interactive area - volume worksheet

Submitted by Leia Fee on Thu, 2010-04-01 21:13

#### Resource type: Interactive worksheet

Paint calculatorThree interactive sheets: paint calculator and carpet costs (area) and storage space (volume).

## Jenga

Submitted by John Thompson A on Fri, 2009-06-19 16:25

#### Level: E2, E3, L1

A hands-on activity that covers measuring, multiplying and 3D shapes (and a quick game of Jenga!).
Plus suggested L1 extension activities that cover perimeter, area, volume, metric measures and tessellation.

## Perimeter, area and volume

Submitted by Julie Hobson on Thu, 2008-04-17 15:53

#### Level: L1

Clear diagrams and examples – makes a good introduction to this topic.
