Teaching learners at Entry Level I have found that many of them have difficulties using coins to pay for their snacks or checking their change.

This resource includes a collection of worksheets that start with several number sequences counting in twos, then move on to count the total value of different number of 2p coins and finish asking the learner to count the number of 2p coins that they need to make up different amounts.

Choosing and purchasing food and drinks. General discussion of foods that can be bought in a cafe or other outlets.
Find the cheapest, most expensive, two the same price, etc.
E1 – match food pics to words
Adding up the total cost of their meal (whole pounds or Australian dollars only).
Plus a cafe order docket for a role play. Students can take turns in being a waiter or waitress and writing down orders and adding up the bill.

‘I have…Who has?’ is a fast-paced coin counting game that has been adapted from a game on Super Teacher Worksheets

For the game to work correctly all of the worksheets need to be distributed to your students so some students may get more than one card.

Resource type: Hands-on / practical activity

Hands-on / kinaesthetic activity where learners select coins, work out prices and change, and line up in order of “wealth” (according to their laminated purse cards).
With teaching and differentiation ideas. Fully mapped to E1-E2 numeracy and Functional Maths.
Note: best used with real money but if you want printable money please use Magic Money for coins and Working in a Charity Shop for notes (see links below).
