SKILLS FOR LIFE learner materials
Printed versions of the SfL materials (with audio CDs) are no longer available but free PDF versions (and teachers' notes) are now available at http://rwp.excellencegateway.org.uk/readwriteplus/Learning_Materials_Literacy and the audio CD tracks here http://www.excellencegateway.org.uk/page.aspx?o=201231
This activity uses ideas and pictures from pages 10 and 20 of Unit 1 (Lost and Found).

TEACHING IDEAS
This work was preceded by work on key words from page 9 of unit 1 (see accompanying teachers notes, link above) about Ben, the boy who got lost in the supermarket.
Extension:
Confident students can write their own sentences about the pictures using our related fill-in exercise.
Alternatively, students write short sentences about themselves (or each other) using the key words above. This is especially effective if the sentences are presented alongside digital photos of the students.

TIP: to print a quick copy of key words and pictures above (for students) highlight the all the text and pictures in the box  and select FILE - PRINT. In the dialogue box change the active button from 'all' to 'selection.
IMPORTANT
: the 'colours' boxes will not print unless you alter options in Internet Explorer and tell it to 'print background colours and images'. To do this select TOOLS - OPTIONS then select the 'Advanced' tab. Scroll down until you find the PRINT options and then click in the tick box.

COLOURS AND CLOTHES
ESL: Colorful Clothesline
simple and very visual. Learn about colours, clothes and patterns. Then test yourself.
COLOURS
Colors And Reading Game simple but effective (suitable for pre-Entry with help).

Hangman primitive graphics (!) but useful as it uses only 10 basic colour words similar to those here (and it talks to you!).
Bearintro similar word list to above but bear graphics (could be considered childish).
CLOTHES
Spin and Spell is really rather good if you ignore childish graphics. Fully illustrated with speech, loads of vocabulary and also includes other useful dictionaries such as animals, food.
Learn English - Hangman - Clothes nice simple game with clear letters
Learn English - Clothes Vocabulary links to pictures and sound files, good for ESOL.
