In this activity, learners have to calculate how much paint is required for a specified job, find prices from different sources and work out total prices. This can then be compared. The resource is in two versions – one with formulae for the required calculations and one without – different pages from each version can be mixed and match to meet different learners’ needs.
The activity requires internet access – however price lists could be substituted for this if this is not available in your context.
Here are a set of worksheets for use with learners based around fire safety. The vocabulary included are types of fire extinguisher and types of fire. The first sheet is a wordsearch, the second features anagrams, and the third sheet is a blank learning check to see how much learners remember.
This is a resource that was designed for use in a computer classroom. It allows learners to research what is needed in a cover letter to find employment. For this resource to work most successfully I would advise that learners carry out the ‘research’ stage (Tasks 1 & 2) of the lesson in pairs or small groups.
Free resources for low-level ESOL learners from Tinder Foundation, the BBC and the British Council. You need to register, but once you have there are loads of resources and training modules.

I’ve only taken a quick look but this does indeed look excellent. Lovely printable flashcards and great, very clear videos.
This is a self-access writing resource that takes learners through the process of writing a CV to fit a person specification. There are exercises which look at genre features, organisation, vocabulary and proofreading.
It was written for ESOL learners around L1, but would also suit functional skills or employability classes.
Link to official army magazine aimed at members of armed forces – useful for Functional Skills for Public Service learners (also general Adult Literacy/Functional Skills if learners are interested in this area).
This helps develops learners literacy skills for reading and writing recipes – it will be good for learners on catering courses and is labelled as being at E2 level.

Sadly the shepherd's pie recipe has disappeared but here are some equally useful recipes from the same site:
This is a new website from the British Council which has loads of resources for ESOL learners and teachers. There are online lesson activities, lesson plans and worksheets. Resources are based around appropriate topic areas for ESOL learners in the UK.
This has a template file and a description of an approach that I have used to help learners write CVs. It is a template that gets learners to think about what in their studies and experience is relevant to a particular job vacancy.

A super template for non linear writing with plenty of academic discussion and further links for the teacher. For an example of non linear reading follow the link (within the blog to the Argos lesson plan.
