L1-2 English FS Writing - 12 week plan with resources

A writing scheme of work/medium term plan for L1+2 Functional Skills (FS) English, designed for the Pearson assessment. It is a 12 lesson unit designed to equip learners with the skills needed to write successfully and confidently in their wider lives, as well as pass their FS writing assessment. The lessons offer differentiated options for L1 and L2 learners, so the plan can be used at either level, or for mixed ability groups. The plan outlines the content of each lesson, along with PPTs, PDF worksheets, online quizzes and video links.

Everything you need to ensure learners are well prepared for formal assessment. Aimed at those using Pearson-Edexcel but ideal underpinning and practice no matter which awarding organisation is used. Fully covers all the Level 1 and 2 assessment criteria for FS English writing. The 12 week plan details starter, main learning activities (including copious links to videos, other Skillsworkshop writing resources, etc.) and plenary for each lesson and is meticulously colour-coded to show where/when written progress notes could be recorded and where there are (many) opportunities to differentiate. Colour coding is also used to highlight a condensed version for those running short or intensive courses.

PPT lessons as follows (main FS content descriptors covered):

1. Use a range of punctuation effectively (L1.19, L2.20)
2. Spell correctly words most often used at work and in college life (L1.21, L2.22)
3. Use paragraphs and a range of sentence types to structure writing (L1.25, L2.25)
4. Communicate information, ideas & opinions clearly and accurately (L1.22, L2.23)
5. Write with appropriate detail and length to suit audience and purpose (L1.23, L2.24)
6. Use format, structure, organisational & presentational features appropriate to the purpose and audience of a text (L1.24, L2.25)
7. Use language, register and tone appropriate to the purpose and audience of a text (L2.27)
8. Write emails using appropriate structure, detail and formality (all)
9. Write a letter of appropriate length and detail (all)
10. Write an article of appropriate length and detail (all)
11. Write an information sheet or leaflet of appropriate length and detail (all)
12. (No PPT) final practice assessments (all)
