Clare's Law and Domestic Violence Awareness
Part of the Living in the UK series.
This resource covers the difficult but very real issue of domestic abuse. The information is provided sensitively and includes information and questions about Clare's Law, and an invented but realistic situation.
Discretion is advised but it is an important and often sidestepped safeguarding issue. Whilst there is a plethora of information, I found not all of it was suitable nor accessible enough for meeting the needs of my learners.
The separate poster can be used with all levels. The narrative is aimed at E3-L2 but the questions are based on an easy-read UK.GOV leaflet so should be accessible (with support) to lower levels too. Links are included for the booklet which I strongly suggest downloading.
This subject can be introduced in a variety of different ways, but I suggest it should be part of any planning given the statistics and consequences of domestic abuse. The section on Clare’s Law maybe enough on its own in raising awareness amongst male and female learners about the protection it can offer in terms of personal safety and general safeguarding.
Editor's notes
A valuable resource which, just as Collen says, should be used with professional discretion and only when you have got to know your learners. In order to answer the questions you will need this leaflet (link also provided within the resource). https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/64dce1e2c8dee4000d7f1dc7/DVDSguid_claresLaw_V7-_14-08-23_.pdf
Another very welcome addition to Colleen's popular Living in the UK series.
