L1-2 Speaking, Listening & Communication - 9 Skill building lessons & 12 week plan

This is a medium term plan (MTP) / scheme of work (SoW) of 12 lessons designed to equip students with the skills needed to complete the Functional Skills English SLC component of the Pearson assessment in the final lesson. The scheme includes 9 PPT lessons (and one PDF worksheet for lesson 6) which build the skills needed for the assessment and lead to the students creating their presentations and researching their discussion topics in lessons 10 and 11. It could also be used for level 2 students because the skills required and the tasks they have to complete in the assessment are similar (see the SoW/MTP PDF for further info).

Everything you need to ensure learners are well prepared for formal assessment. Aimed at those using Pearson-Edexcel but ideal underpinning and practice no matter which awarding organisation is used. Fully covers all the Level 1 and 2 assessment criteria for FS speaking, listening and communication.  The 12 week plan details starter, main learning activities (including copious links to videos and other onscreen resources) and plenary for each lesson and is meticulously colour-coded to show where/when written progress notes could be recorded and where there are (many) opportunities to differentiate.

PPT lessons as follows (FS content descriptors in brackets):

• 1 - Adapting language styles to different contexts (L1.6, L1.7, L2.7 )
• 2 - Expressing ideas & opinions in a variety of contexts (L1.5, L2.5, L2.6)
• 3 - Follow narratives and lines of argument expressed by others (L1.1, L2.1, L2.2)
• 4 - Moving discussions forward and taking turns (L1.2, L1.8, L2.8)
• 5 - Structuring ideas and information on a specific topic (L1.4, L2.5)
• 6 - Develop ideas and opinions with supporting evidence (L1.5, L2.6)
• 7 - Create and structure a presentation suitable for audience and purpose (L1.7, L2.7, L2.9)
• 8 - Responding effectively to questions and feedback (L1.2, L1.3, L2.3)
• 9 - Researching information on a chosen topic (L1.4, L2.5) 

Lessons 10 and 11 involve preparing a presentation (10) and researching a topic for group discussion (11). The final lesson (12) is formal assessment day (see MTP pages 19-22 for more details on these lessons).
