# Adult Numeracy, Functional Maths, and GCSE Resources

**794 resources**:

5 questions, increasing in difficulty, to get learners to work out how many solar panels can fit on different size roofs. Involves metric conversions between mm, cm and m. Learners have to work with the panels being placed in 2 different orientations to work out the maximum number of panels that can fit.

5 questions based on functional skills exam questions where learners find the probability of an event happening.

Four challenging Functional Skills maths questions to encourage learners to use diagrams to cut shapes out of different materials. The questions are based on past Edexcel Functional skills exam questions that learners find difficult. Also involves metric conversions.

**Editor’s note**

Includes answer sheet and curriculum mapping. Excellent coverage of a topic that almost all learners find tricky.

Three challenging Functional skills questions to get learners to draw 2D representations of 3D objects using a given scale. The questions are based on an exam question from an Edexcel L2 paper last year that learners found difficult.

With answers and curriculum mapping.

A simple but effective dice game to help students become familiar with, and practise, calculating percentages of amounts. You will need to customise 2 dice by writing amounts on one and percentages on the other.

I usually play this game with low ability students after teaching them a fail-safe calculator method for working out percentages of amounts, but it can be adapted for higher level learners.

It also helps to reinforce that 0% of a number is nothing and 100% of a number is all of it.

FDP (fraction – decimal – percentage) Functional Skills exam style questions at L1 and L2 (plus an extension question). Three lengthy questions.

The focus is on showing step by step, clear working out.

A Bonfire Night themed resource covering some aspects of literacy and numeracy.

The resource contains a basic reading comprehension about the History of Bonfire Night. This is followed by a numeracy activity where students have to buy fireworks for a display with a budget of £300. The final activity is a writing task and learners have to create a poster advertising the event.

I created this for an ILS (independent life skills) class but it could be used with Entry Functional Skills learners too.

Entry level Functional Skills Maths on the theme of vehicles queuing up ready to board a ferry.

Covers many aspects of Functional Maths including: number, position & size, simple lists and charts, and time.

**Editor’s note**

Two versions available: E1-E2 and E2-E3.

With detailed Functional Maths mapping and teaching tips

PPT covering

- Percentages of simple amounts (10%, 50% etc).
- More challenging amounts (e.g 15%)
- Percentage increase and decrease.

Each objective has examples, followed by tasks.

A short cloze exercise on the Olympic Opening Ceremony based on numbers (E2-L1), plus a writing activity at 2 levels (E2-3 and L1-L2).

**Editor’s note**

The cloze is also a clever way of embedding some maths (large numbers).
