Adult Numeracy, Functional Maths, and GCSE Resources

A multi-functional resource for Literacy or Numeracy. Sample TV listings by day, programme, start and end times, channel and genre. Use for alphabetic or numeric sorting, skimming and scanning exercises, literacy social sight vocabulary for days of the week, numeracy exercises for calculating time, etc. This resource contains some sample exercise questions to use which can be developed further according to need. I laminated the sheets and then cut up into days so lower level learners can move the elements around. Higher level learners can work from the whole page sheets as well.

A clever spreadsheet that creates a set of 15 loop or ‘follow me’ cards. Comes with a prewritten set of cards based on multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 100 but can you can easily add your own questions and answers on any topic.

A beautiful set of worksheets. Learners must match months to seasons and also relate well known festivals and celebrations to each season (there is also a handy overview calendar for 2010). The last two sheets focus specifically on spring (clothes, foods, etc.).
Also useful for E1-2 ESOL / Literacy (spelling months of the year).

Christmas Star template was designed to accompany Sarah Horsley’s How to Make a Christmas Star resource (below) and makes the folding and cutting process easier. Ideal when using Sarah’s resource in a family learning situation.

A fabulous set of illustrated instructions. Makes a great activity for literacy and numeracy classes (reading instructions, measuring, shapes, etc.) at many levels.

A fabulous set of differentiated maths quizzes that are great for revision and/or end of term. Three quizzes (E1-2, E3-L1, L2) each with four rounds: quick fire, picture (for which you will need to download the relevant PowerPoint – see beelow), true-false, and a timed or team round – depends on level. The author has even thought to include tie breaker questions.
Everything is included except the bell or squeaky toy needed for the quick fire round!

A super, quick-to-prepare paired game (all you need is paper, pencil and two dice) that is easily differentiated for any E1-E3 group. Example games include addition, subtraction and times tables.

A great set of resources for all levels from E1-L2. Includes information and worksheets, card / matching games and an IT drawing exercise.

An interactive whiteboard problem solving activity suitable for many levels. Makes a fun starter activity and provides a good link between shape and space and algebra.
