I created these hand-outs for my Entry 1 to Level 1 learners and used them to accompany Saul Pope’s E3-L2 Problem Page resource (see below for a link to Saul’s resource).

I found the resources very useful for both motivational purposes (all students enjoyed the discussion aspect) and also to inform future planning (all students found it difficult putting pen to paper when writing their response).

This is a ‘prepositions of place’ resource I use with my 16-19 (and adult!) ESOL learners before Christmas. It’s basically an Easter egg hunt but with Christmas presents instead of eggs.

The number of presents and lines can be tailored to the class. I’ve used this with E1/E2 ESOL groups, although there may be a use for Numeracy and Literacy. It’s a fun, lively activity which I hope you find useful.

Based loosely on C&G E3 literacy exam papers, this covers many of the criteria through a seasonal topic.
It includes reading comprehension questions (E3-L1), a dictionary and alphabetical order task (E2-E3), form filling (E2-E3) and letter writing (E3-L2). There’s also plenty of scope for discussion. The form filling and write-to-your MP tasks are also suitable for Functional English. Ideal for mixed ability groups.
