N2/E3.1

Read, write and understand common fractions in words and figures (e.g. 3/4,2/3,1/10)
(a) Understand that the bottom number (denominator) indicates the number of equal parts in the whole
(b) Understand that a unit fraction is one part of a whole divided into equal parts (e.g. 1/5 181/10)
(c) Understand that non-unit fractions are several equal parts of a whole, indicated by the top number (numerator)

My class of adult learners were struggling to associate fractions with real world scenarios so I created this worksheet based on honest situations.
The questions are diverse in difficulty from Entry level 2 to Level 2 making it a good worksheet as a starter or revision.

This is a PowerPoint presentation to use when teaching or revising the basic concepts of fractions and exploring common misconceptions held by students. This presentation also explores the link between fractions, decimals and percentages and the sharing of fraction amounts.
I have used the resource with Functional Skills and Skills for Life classes ranging from Entry 2 to Level 2 students.
