MSS1/E2.4

MSS1/E2.4 Read and understand time displayed on analogue and 12-hr digital clocks in hours, half hours and quarter hours.
(a) understand that analogue clocks can be marked in different ways, e.g. Arabic or Roman numerals, dots, lines.
(b) understand quarter past, half past, quarter to and know the corresponding position of the hands on the clock face.
(c) understand that digital clocks show hours and minutes and know that :15 on a digital clock is quarter past, :30 half past, :45 quarter to.
(d) Understand and use am and pm

A series of questions that asks the learner to read a start time in words, draw this time on an analogue clock face then calculate a second time from a question and draw this on a second clock face.
I am using this with an E2 learner who wants to improve her time telling skills and it has presented a good challenge for her.

This is an adaptation of Murder at the Grange, which my students have always enjoyed.

I wanted to extend the work on calculating with time, so learners have to use and extend timetables and calculate multi-stage journey times. I also thought it would be good to have some female characters!

This resource uses the 2012 Olympics cycling road race as a theme and focuses on dates and time. Learners use a calendar to find a day and date, extract information from a table, add times to blank clock faces and carry out simple calculations. There is also a road map of the race with questions to answer.
