AN MSS1/L1.1 Add, subtract, multiply & divide sums of money and record

MSS1/L1.1 Add, subtract, multiply and divide sums of money and record (a) understand place value of whole numbers and decimals up to two decimal places but recognise that money is written either as a whole number or to two decimal places, e.g. £5 or £5.00, but not £5.0 (b) know that, for column addition and subtraction, decimals should be aligned by the decimal point

A differentiated resource to recap many number & measure skills and to help learners with the skills needed when looking for or applying for a job.

There are 6 questions in both the L1 and L2 version – working out weekly pay, annual salary, tax payable, comparing pay to JSA (Job Seeker’s Allowance), reading/completing a bus timetable and correcting a job acceptance letter (L1 Functional English proof reading).

Work out the cost of carpeting a flat (compound shapes) and seeding and fencing a rectangular lawn.
The step by step problem solving approach also makes this ideal for underpinning L1 Functional Maths – although the scaffolded worksheet on page 2 can be removed for confident students or for assessment purposes. It also provides useful practice with extracting information from a room plan and price list.
