• Recognise context, including the level of formality, and be aware that it is not necessary to understand every word in order to do so. Example: Recognise the structure of a spoken narrative, e.g.: • general idea • specific point • example and elaboration
• Be aware that narratives often follow predictable patterns and use understanding of discourse markers to help to follow the narrative. Example: Well, it was very interesting working and living in a different culture. There were quite a few pretty embarrassing incidents, quite steep learning curve for me!
