About skillsworkshop.org

This site is owned and maintained by Maggie Harnew. I was a specialist study coach at Abingdon and Witney College for twenty one years and used the site as a resource in my literacy, numeracy, ESOL, study / language / dyslexia support, and Functional Skills classes. Resources on the site once reflected whatever subjects and levels I was teaching. However, I am delighted to say that there are now so many brilliant contributors that I barely have time to write my own resources!

Find out more about the development of the site on the History page.

The site is non-profit making and is maintained in my free time at home. I pay all the hosting and domain fees myself – although thanks must go to Fonant, who now host and develop the site, for their generous terms.

All resources on this site are accessible without registration and can be used freely for teaching purposes. They cannot be used for profit or placed on other web sites. Resources have the contributor’s name on every page and their copyright remains with the author. Those with no author’s name are, unless otherwise stated, copyright Maggie Harnew.

In order to create a balanced and up-to-date site – Literacy, Numeracy, Functional Skills and ESOL resources are always needed at all levels from Foundation (including preEntry) through to Level 2. Please consider contributing a resource. If you have a worksheet or teaching idea that has worked well in your own classes – it will be useful to other tutors. See Contributing resources for further information and to find out what you get in exchange for your resources.

If you can’t send a resource, you can still contribute by leaving comments about any resource or external link on the site. Differentiation, contextualisation and E&D (equality and diversity) ideas are particularly welcome. You will need to register and log in before you can leave comments. Find out more on the Registering with skillsworkshop page. If you would like to leave more general feedback, please use contact or my Facebook  and Twitter feeds (links at the bottom of every screen).

Thanks must go to all my students, past and present – who have been the inspiration for many of the resources – and to all the site users who have contributed resources or words of encouragement. Without you the site would never have happened.
