Learners must choose the next manager of the England football team. Using the task sheet to guide them, they must research, collate and present information for five candidates and then make the final choice.

There is scope for plenty of lively discussion around the choices made and also about what the manager’s job entails.

A Power Point presentation is included as an example, but can also be printed out to use in some of the additional activities described.

A lovely, very topical set of Functional Skills tasks about the UK digital TV switchover that began in 2009 and finishes in 2012.

The task sheet covers reading comprehension, research, and ICT skills such as finding and selecting information, saving and printing files.

An E3-L1 Functional Maths, English and ICT task first used with learners at Leyton Orient Community Sports Programme. Plan and cost a restaurant meal for 20 officials (originally held at Frank and Benny’s, Chingford, but you will need to provide menus from a favourite local restaurant or chain) and then present your results in a spreadsheet..

Lovely classroom display that will help learners define and understand the function of 20 common Excel toolbar buttons.

I created this resource as practice in data handling for a Level 1 Functional Maths group and it covers skills from Entry 3 to Level 2. It includes creating tallies and charts, using a distance chart, calculating average and range, and working with money. It is fully mapped to the Functional Maths criteria and includes an answer sheet.

My students are 16-18, and have a limited knowledge of geography, so I included an outline map of the UK (not included in the resource) and got them to use a road map to find and mark the cities and towns that are on the distance chart.

An adapted version of Judith White’s pancake resource aimed at Level 1 (see below). I have created this resource to use with Entry 3 (and slightly higher E3/L1) learners.
