A short project for L1 Functional Skills or ESOL, wherein students research aspects of a foreign holiday destination and produce a piece of persuasive advertising based upon findings.

A demonstration of how not to make a PowerPoint. This has been used for all levels as an extreme example of the worst PowerPoint ever.

Useful 1 page handout. Very simple instructions on how to correct a mistake made when typing in Microsoft Word. First used with residents at a clinic who have learning difficulties but ideal for any beginner.

Here is another Level 1-2 variant on the classic ‘Smarties’ investigation which incorporates the use of a PC and Excel. I stopped using Smarties and Skittles because of the health and hygiene issues.

A lovely, very topical set of Functional Skills tasks about the UK digital TV switchover that began in 2009 and finishes in 2012.

The task sheet covers reading comprehension, research, and ICT skills such as finding and selecting information, saving and printing files.

An E3-L1 Functional Maths, English and ICT task first used with learners at Leyton Orient Community Sports Programme. Plan and cost a restaurant meal for 20 officials (originally held at Frank and Benny’s, Chingford, but you will need to provide menus from a favourite local restaurant or chain) and then present your results in a spreadsheet..
