A fun activity for ESOL learners which draws on the popularity of the online word guessing game, Wordle.

A complete mini-lesson for ESOL or Functional English! Introductory PPT and a detailed and very useful lesson plan. A great way to integrate spelling strategies with basic ICT skills. Includes discussion about the 26 letters but 44 phonemes of the English language. 

A very useful handout for Entry Level ESOL and/or Functional Skills ICT students. Step by step, illustrated instructions on how to create a basic PPT.

The basic PPT used in the handout images is also provided. This can be adapted by the teacher or (optionally) given to learners to adapt. 

A word processing activity which involves typing and formatting and also contains useful information.

The idea is that the learners digest the text that they are working with and learn from it. I would put it at about level E2/3.

Simulation of completing an online CV. Very easy to use, fill in the boxes and print after completion.

Simulations of email and online banking registration forms. Can be used in succession, as for the banking registration form you need an email address. When you press the “create account” button it will open the printing menu. Good luck!

Practice some of the skills needed for ICT Functional skills and also a bit of fun. Can be used individually, in pairs or groups. Two lots of 15 questions with fill-in answersheet attached.

Activity to get students using Word and some of its applications by designing a poster for a gig.

Learners must choose the next manager of the England football team. Using the task sheet to guide them, they must research, collate and present information for five candidates and then make the final choice.

There is scope for plenty of lively discussion around the choices made and also about what the manager’s job entails.

A Power Point presentation is included as an example, but can also be printed out to use in some of the additional activities described.

A demonstration of how not to make a PowerPoint. This has been used for all levels as an extreme example of the worst PowerPoint ever.

A series of clear tasks that works well for a wide ability range (E2-L1).
Includes: resizing pictures, creating and saving folders and files, web research and poster design.
