This is a simple resource that has proven to be a very effective motivational tool with pre entry to level 2 learners.

Mainly written for L1 and L2 test preparation this is also suitable for Entry Level 3

PPT slides with common errors.
Originally designed for a GCSE class, it can also be used with L1/L2 learners.

A list of buzz words I sometimes use with learners when doing reviews – helps them to come up with ideas about how they are progressing and how their learning is making a difference in their lives.

A set of posters / cards / checklists designed to prompt discussion, check learning and keep a record of student progression. Designed for Entry Level Functional Maths and English learners in an FE setting but suitable for all levels and subjects.
This resource was inspired by discussion on the NCETM (National Centre for Excellence in Teaching Mathematics) site about “understanding versus doing” and I would like to thank the forum members for their ideas and feedback.

This PDF is an amalgamation of methods and worked examples, sorted by topic, for both L1 and L2 Adult Numeracy/Functional Skills (some sections are also suitable for Entry 3). It is not intended as an exhaustive resource, but more of a selection of “hot topics” and exam-friendly examples (some of which are paraphrased from actual past papers).

My house is a fabulous tool to use at the beginning of the year. Gather useful ILP information during initial assessment. Sample house, blank house and full instructions / teaching ideas are provide. Suitable for literacy and numeracy students at all levels.

Written for ESOL students with good basic numeracy skills who were taking the E3 multiple choice test without attending numeracy classes. However these notes are brilliant for any Entry 3 numeracy student.

Two VERY useful sheets that can really help both you and your students get the best out of lessons.
Version 1 is the basic version, version 2 has additional questions to help students relate what they have learnt to everyday routines and/or employment.

6 Excel charts showing all the curriculum indicators in any particular level: pre-Entry (Milestone 1- Milestone 8 in one sheet), and one sheet each for E1, E2, E3, L1, L2.

Each chart provides, on one page, a quick, visual record of progress and achievement and is particularly useful in forming and updating individual learning plans. They can be kept in students’ basic skills folders and used to set targets and track progress.
