A set of robust questions covering plans / scale drawings, calculating area, finding the best prices, percentages, ratios and much more. Mapped to the L1 and L2 Functional Maths criteria. 12 questions spread across 4 tasks: Loft Conversion, Social Club, College Canteen and Living Room.

Although many learners find patterns and sequences (including odd & even numbers) straightforward, there is a sizeable proportion that really struggle – particularly those with dyslexia and/or dyscalculia.

This resource grew from my frustration at the lack of practice material available for this topic at Entry Levels 2 and 3 in my one to one support sessions. There is generally only one question on this topic per FS assessment, and I found it difficult to come up with real life functional problems off the top of my head.

Four challenging Functional Skills maths questions to encourage learners to use diagrams to cut shapes out of different materials. The questions are based on past Edexcel Functional skills exam questions that learners find difficult. Also involves metric conversions.

A gigantic worksheet / assessment pack based on Facts & Stats from the official Wimbledon site in 2016. Covers almost all aspects of Functional Maths and is split into differentiated sections covering Entry Level 2 to Level 2.

This PowerPoint was used to introduce Pythagoras’ Theorem to Functional Skills college students whose main course work is to do with the Building Trades (Carpenters, Electricians). The last 4 slides therefore deal with using Pythagoras’ theorem to calculate the length of roof rafters.

I realise that using Pythagoras’ theorem is beyond the scope of L2 Functional Maths Exams but this is a very useful PPT due to the vocational questions. Would also be useful for GCSE Maths.

use as a starter in pre-Entry/ E1 ESOL, Maths or literacy groups.

Clicking reveals the number (as a digit) and a further click reveals the number spelt out as a word. Good used with small individual whiteboards.

In the construction trades there is still a need for some students to understand the difference between Imperial and metric units of measure. This is a Powerpoint presentation to help with this. I have used it with E3 and L1 students.
