# N2/E3.6

Find 1/2, 1/3, 1/4 , 1/5 and 1/10 of appropriate multiples of items or shapes (e.g. 1/2 of 32, 1/3 of 21)

(a) Understand that the numerator is always one in a unit fraction

(b) Understand that the denominator tells you how many parts into which to divide the items

(c) Understand the connection between unit fractions and the denominator when finding fractional parts

My class of adult learners were struggling to associate fractions with real world scenarios so I created this worksheet based on honest situations.

The questions are diverse in difficulty from Entry level 2 to Level 2 making it a good worksheet as a starter or revision.

With curriculum mapping and answers

A worksheet which gives students practice in naming and calculating the fractions most often seen in recipes. 1/2, 1/3 cup etc.

This worksheet can be accompanied with a ‘hands on’ exercise. eg: measuring 1/2, 3/4 cup of rice etc. You need: a tray, a marked measuring cup, a cup and a jar of rice or other suitable medium.

Ideal for, and mapped to, Entry 2 and 3 Adult numeracy and Functional Maths.

A clever and unusual set of 3-way matching cards to help underpin the following skills: converting measures , expressing one number as a fraction of another, find parts of quantities, and simplifying fractions. Can be differentiated for E3-L2.

Forms part of a set of 5 resources linked to an excellent L1-2 lesson plan (that also focuses on expressing one number as a fraction of another). Can also be used independently.

A very useful set of revision questions covering place value, simple fractions & percentages, number patterns, times tables and more .

A great set of very visual problems based on working with fractions of amounts (money). Ideal for individual or group work (if displayed on an interactive whiteboard).
