Example of application and level:
Plan, draft and write a speech to be delivered at a family function, e.g. wedding, special birthday.
Sample activities
- Share experiences of texts where length/level of detail are not right for the purpose (e.g. some instructions for DIY furniture, fliers through the door where the purpose is not clear, school reports that are too general).
- In pairs, work on different types of task (e.g. writing some instructions, an e-mail to a family member living abroad, a letter of apology). Plan and draft outlines for each, indicating thetarget length, the main content points and their order. Compare and discuss plans.
- Draft a letter on Word, for example to the head teacher at your child's school. Consider how much to write.
