Wt/L1.5: Use format and structure for different purposes
- Understand that there are different ways of organising and presenting text, depending on its type and purpose, e.g. paragraphs, numbered lists, bulleted points, charts, tables, sub-headings
- Understand that diagrams, sketches and drawings can be used alongside writing to make meaning clearer, e.g. in instructions, explanations
- Understand that a lot of workplace writing uses pre-set and outline formats, e.g. accident report forms, timesheets, job sheets, memo headings

Example of application and level:
Select the best format and structure for a purpose in their own writing, e.g. draw a flowchart to arrange some actions into steps.
Sample activities
- Using a word processor, design a poster to advertise a local event.
- Plan, structure and set out appropriately on paper or screen a ‘personal manifesto’, e.g. announcing a set of ‘house rules’ to the family, setting out some new year resolutions/promises to themselves or others/plans for a healthier lifestyle/a ‘wish list’ for the future.
