Rt/L2.3

Identify the main points and specific detail
(a) Understand the difference between main points and specific detail as they occur in different types of text, e.g. a letter, a safety report, a rail timetable
(b) Understand the importance of knowing when it is sufficient to grasp the main points and when the details are also important
(c) Understand that knowledge of the organisation and layout of different texts can help distinguish main points from detail, e.g. headings, topic sentences

Topical comprehension based on a 2001 BBC News report with comprehension & vocabulary questions written for E2E learners. Although this is an old report from 2001 it is still of interest to younger students and ideal for provoking discussion about appropriate language, lyrics, etc.
