Interactive resource sites

Use interactive quizzes and activities to introduce students to the internet and give them control over their own learning. We are not suggesting these sites are used in isolation. Some are ideal for group work (use with data projector or interactive white board). Others are more suited to individual or paired work.

Fraction Calculator

This page hosts a fraction calculator that can perform addition, subtraction multiplication or division of two fractions. The values for the calculation can be simple or mixed fractions, or consist of only wholes. Input of improper fractions is allowed. Enter the values directly into the corresponding locations in the fraction calculator and the answer will be updated in real time. A visualization of the operand fractions and the answer fraction is shown in the panel underneath where the values are entered.

Tools Library

Now an archived part of the Excellence Gateway, this was once a standalone site for trialling Skills for Life assessment tools.

Paper and computer based materials are still available for both generic and workplace screening and initial assessment. Initial assessment materials include audio files for assessing listening skills.

DfES Standards Site

The old DfES Standards Site for schools was huge, unwieldy and difficult to navigate. However, it did include many useful resopurces – not least the on-screen teaching applications for maths (interactive 100 squares, number lines, scales, and dozens more). The site was decommisioned by the new Government in 2010 but has been archived.
