  • Use a range of direct and indirect ways of asking, including embedded questions. Examples: Ask for directions, e.g.: Excuse me. How do I get to ...? Do you know the way to ...? Can you tell me where ... is?
  • Adapt register to suit the situation. Ask for explanation, e.g.: Would you mind explaining this to me? Can you explain what happened?
