Use different reading strategies to find and obtain information, e.g. skimming, scanning, detailed reading (i) Understand the importance of choosing the best reading strategy for the purpose in terms of time and efficiency, e.g. surveying, skimming, scanning, detailed reading; varying speed and thoroughness of reading, for both paper-based and electronic texts (ii) Know how to apply a range of skimming strategies to gain the gist, scan to locate information, and read in detail to select and judge the relevance of specific information (iii) Select and note key points for future reference (iv) Draw on knowledge of literacy practices from own personal and cultural background, and understand that written texts are often approached and used in a variety of ways in different cultures and settings
