Use punctuation and capitalisation to aid understanding (i) Recognise that different punctuation marks are used for different purposes, and know the relevant terms, e.g. comma, full stop, question mark and exclamation mark (ii) Recognise and take account of how simple punctuation aids understanding of texts, and apply this knowledge when reading (iii) know some common rules, e.g. capital letters for proper nouns; full stops, question marks and exclamation marks for end of sentences; all end-of-sentence markers are followed by an initial capital letter in continuous text written in whole sentences.

Originally written as a mock E2 ESOL reading paper with a Halloween theme. Now amended with extra tasks to reflect the reformed Entry Level 2 Functional English content. Covers alphabetical order / dictionary work, general comprehension, purpose of text (E3) and some writing elements (see below).
