Students are to plan and advertise a Christmas fete.
The resource covers writing lists and sentences, proof reading and using basic adjectives.
Students could use the Internet to find some ideas for Christmas stalls.

I wrote this E1-2 writing task to supplement the excellent E1-2 reading/writing/discussion worksheet by Carrie Bray (see below).
Write a note to a friend. Use conjunctions and check your work.

A topical and challenging series of differentiated questions for upper E3 to Level 2. Based on a news report about the May 2015 relief effort and a table of statistics about the world’s largest earthquakes.

Each covers many aspects of Functional Maths. Topics include money, ratio, proportion, fractions, extracting from tables, mean and range, calendars and much more.

Comprehension based on a Red Nose Day order form for schools. Two comprehensions – one L1/L2, one E3. Also some embedded maths and the E3 version includes form filling. I recommend introducing the form with a discussion about features of text and layout.

A challenging set of questions based on a short text about the stunning Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red installation at the Tower of London.
Questions cover number measures, time, money, area – many calculations involve working with very large numbers.

This is a worksheet based on data supplied by a librarian. The library had been collecting second hand books from people and sent them to BetterWorld Books. The librarian told me that 688 books had been sent and then provided the information of what would be saved, earned or donated if there were 1000 books sent. The worksheet asks the students to work out the quantities for all the books that had been sent. It will be suitable as a group project for lower ability learners but should be suitable for learners at Level 2 to work through on their own.

Based on an hilarious Comics Relief YouTube clip. A great way to get students to look at conversations in speaking and listening or to look at humour, irony and sarcasm.

You can vary the questions or just use them as a discussion prompt. I have found it works well with lower level learners and with higher ones as well. Even students who don’t like the shows or the people will have some comments

A Sport Relief task which looks at the dates of the events and the cost of buying products from the Sport Relief shop. It includes reading a calendar and working out the days/weeks left until the event. It also includes questions on comparing, adding, subtracting (working pout change) and halving money. Learners have to read prices from the Sports Relief shop and decide what to buy with a given amount of money.
