This resource is adapted from, and complements, the L1/2 resource with the same title created by Claire Douglas (see below).
The activity is based on recent changes to the minimun wage (Nov 2011). Students have to read the information given on the shop employees’ ages and new minimun pay to work out how much the staff are paid for their work.
I used this activity with my E3 students and they enjoyed it.
Great for Functional Maths and/or employability classes, this set of resources explore the different levels of the minimum wage. A PPT introduces the topic and demonstrates how to solve some sample problems about the wages bill of a sandwich shop with 4 employees aged between 16 and 35. (Adding up and multiplying money).
The accompanying worksheet provides further practice and consolidation and includes extension questions.
Excellent practice with balance / budget sheets and working with large numbers (including negative numbers). Complete the missing information in three different sheets (holiday budget, household budget, business costs). Ideal for Functional Maths.
Challenging and very functional worksheets where learner must complete the missing information and calculate the take-home pay etc. for various UK tax payers. There are also some interesting open questions that are ideal for Functional Maths interpreting skills.
