#### Level: L1, L2

Here is another Level 1-2 variant on the classic ‘Smarties’ investigation which incorporates the use of a PC and Excel. I stopped using Smarties and Skittles because of the health and hygiene issues.
I stumbled upon the Foam squares at www.craftpacks.co.uk ‘Giant Jar of Foam Squares for £4.75 + 20% VAT. The exercise is in two parts: the first part a bit like Smarties and then the second part covers ‘mean, mode, median and range’.

#### Level: E3, L1

Step by step method for using this very clever, little-known method of working out those tricky times tables from 6 to 9. (The method relies on the user knowing his or her “easier times tables” well so is not suitable for the complete times-tables novice. Very clear slides with lots of illustrated examples.

Lovely warm-up or “taster “ for L1-2 level groups. The idea could easily be adapted for Entry Level groups.
Just as the quote on the resource says:“The value of the problem is not so much in coming up with the answer as in the ideas and attempted ideas it forces on the would be solver.”
