Skills for Life Learning Materials updated 31/05/06

Transcript of track 6 from the Entry Level 1 Literacy CD.

Pickles was a hero in 1966.  He was the dog who found the World Cup! In 1966 the World Cup took place in England.
The cup was stolen and the final match was going to be played without the cup. The police arrested a man, but they could not find the cup. A copy of the cup was made.
A dog called Pickles found the cup in a bush in London. His owner received a reward of £5,000 for finding the cup.

Printed versions of Skills for Life learner materials (with audio CDs) are available free from DfES to institutions in England and Wales teaching Adult Literacy, Numeracy and ESOL.
PDFs (and teachers' notes) are at: http://www.dfes.gov.uk/readwriteplus/LearningMaterialsLiteracy
This transcript is used in Unit 1 (In a pickle!), page 11 (the transcript itself can be found page 18)

Teaching ideas:
If you do not have the audio CD - read the text (above) to students, discuss. Then hand out student copies of the text and ask students to follow the text as you read it again. This can be followed up with DART (directed activities relating to text) before students attempt this cloze exercise.
TIP: to print a quick copy of transcript (for students) highlight the text in blue box above with your mouse and select FILE - PRINT. In the dialogue box change the active button from 'all' to 'selection'.
