A simplified and adapted version of Laura Bell’s New Year Resource (which is aimed at E3-L2).
This version is aimed at E2-E3 and is a reading comprehension based on a BBC website report of New Year round the world. Great as an introductory topic to spring term sessions.

This worksheet was created to encourage students to recognize the features of written instructions (numbered lists to show the chronological order of the steps – use of imperative verbs) and explanations (headings written as questions which the text answers).

Ideal for mixed ability groups. Questions range from straightforward E3-L1 comprehension through to the features-of-text type that are so important at L1-2 Functional English.

The article concerns a survey conducted by iPhone. There is a comprehension exercise, an exercise involving the identification of spelling errors and a synonym exercise. The learner is also asked to write their views. Useful for those working towards the Level 2 Certificate in Adult Literacy.
