This is a simplified, minimal literacy version of a Christmas numeracy resource (see below) written as an end of term assessment for a mixed ability group ranging from low E2 – E3 – low L1. Ideal for students with low literacy or for a faster assessment where you are just testing straightforward maths – not problem solving skills (most Xmas references have been removed making it suitable for year-round use). With a marking box sheet for E2, E3, L1 to allow for differentiated assessment and separate answer sheet.

Two great PPTs with step by step examples using the lattice method (with decimals up to 3 places) and lots of real life practical examples inc. money and measures.
One PPT is for the tutor and can also be used to demonstrate the step by step process. The second PPT is for students and includes blank lattice grids and a series of problems to work on individually or in pairs (could also be printed to make a useful work book).

A fabulous multi-sensory, differentiated activity where students gradually build up their own mind maps and learn to see writing a a process not simply a finished piece of work. With excellent tutor notes and extension ideas.

Probability with a pack of playing cards was written for an ESOL numeracy student unfamiliar with playing cards but is great for any L1 student. Express the likelihood of single events (and also practice simplifying fractions!).

A great warm-up or starter activity – covers many aspects of the numeracy curriculum (E3 upwards) plus general knowledge. Originally written when the author was bemused to find that many people did not know how many weeks there are in a year!

Really useful onscreen practice in the same multiple-choice style as the national numeracy test.
